1st & 2nd XI Review June

1st & 2nd XI Review June

1 Sep 2017

After a hectic start to the season things calmed down a little in June with both sides scheduled to play just 4 games in June, and both were to lose one of those to the weather and end up with just the 3 played.

The 1st XI started with a tough looking game at Horwich RMI particularly as the pro was serving an undeserved one match ban but with everyone pulling out all the stops gaining a remarkable win. With Matt leading the way in making 59 together with 30 from Dan V and an unbeaten 32 from Oli we managed to post 207-6 which was to be 103 too many for RMI despite Pelser making a fine 59*. Robbie enjoyed himself on his old stamping ground taking 6/38. A trip to Kearsley was next up, and once again for some reason we let ourselves down there with the bat and 102 proved to be a comfortable target for the home side.  Back home for a key game with Eagley and Dave and Robbie went through the visitors batting like a knife through butter Dave taking 6/49 and Robbie 4/39. Despite a bit of a stumble Leachy's 29 helped us notch up 2 wins out of 3 for the month.

In contract the 2ndXI had a bit of a disaster in June losing all 3 games played with 2 of them on paper eminently winnable so a blow to any hopes of promotion. The month started at home to a strong Little Hulton side who rattled up 220-8 despite Daz taking 3 and Will 2 wickets. Only a late flurry from Matt Taylor 48 and Zayn 22 saw us reach 161 in reply. Next up were Walkden and batting first we made 196 with Harry (40), Matt (40) and AJ 39 the main contributors. Daz was again in the wickets taking 5/33 but Walkden rallied fromlosing 5 cheap wickets to get in by 3 wickets.  The final game saw a trip to Tonge and an agonising 1 run defeat chasing Tonge's 143-6. Will made 26, Asghar 23 and Tom Senior 20 but a collapse saw us finish just 2 short of a vital win.
