September Review

Going in to the final 3 games of the season the 1stXI were still not sure of avoiding relegation and with all 3 on paper tricky looking matches against teams at the top end of the table, we were also potentially relying on other results. As it happens we needn't have worried as the first game effectively sealed safety after a remarkable recovery saw a narrow win over Walkden. Batting first and tottering at 29-7 we were in deep trouble only for a stand of 97 between Mark and Robbie who each made 42 saw reach a total of 138. Walkden's reply followed a similar pattern recovering from 47-6 but in the end all out for 124 with David taking 5/50 and Robbie and Sheeny 2 each. A rained off game against Farnworth the following confirmed safety before a disappointing end to the season saw us well beaten at Westhoughton.

The 2nd XI managed to finish their season the opposite way round starting the month with a disappointing defeat at Eagley where 3 wickets each for Millsy, Buzzer and Will had restricted the home side to 156-9 before a batting collapse saw us muster just 85 in reply despite Alex hitting 36. They then somehow managed 15 overs at Atherton before the rain won the day with us having reached 52-2 (the only game in the league to see any play that day). Back home for the final game of the season we rattled up an impressive 218-3 with Ste hitting 52, Will a rapid 51*, Buzzer 41 and Ryan 36 after being asked to bat by Adlington. The run chase never got going as wickets fell regularly with 3 each for Daz and Buzzer, and 2 for Neil sealing a comfortable win to finish on a high note.
